A professional singer since 1976, Maggie Galloway has been heard in many of the top nightclubs and concert halls of New England, and throughout the rest of the United States, Asia, the Caribbean, and South Africa. She has headlined at Boston's Top of the Hub for twenty years and been a frequent guest of Ron Della Chiesa on WGBH. Among her many accolades are two awards from DownBeat magazine. Her first CD was named an "Editor's Choice" by Cadence magazine in a poll of the best discs of 1998, a CD of the week by Jazz Review, and the Best Female Vocal Jazz CD in Cape Town, South Africa. The Boston Globe said of her: The classic songs of American jazz have been covered so many times that it takes an exceptional singer to make them come alive. Maggie Galloway is such a songstress. As poet Peter Davison wrote, off Maggie Galloway's repertory takes us through the realms of thoughtful jazz and into pure inventiveness, but always with a musicality and richness of feeling that carries deep respect for the nature of the text and its meaning. To hear her is an expedition into lyricism. Anthony Weller is a virtuoso jazz and classical guitarist with many CDs in both genres; he is also part of the Herb Pomeroy Trio. He has recorded with violinist Stéphane Grappelli and played everywhere from concert halls in Italy and Turkey to New York's Birdland nightclub and the JVC Jazz Festival. He and Maggie recorded the highly-praised CD Azure as a trio (with bassist Bob Nieske) and perform frequently as a duo, offering a diversity of music from standards of the Great American Songbook to the majesty of American folk song. |

........Mexican-American Trumpeter, Robert Gastelum is only 21 years old, but in that time he has garnered a reputation as one of the hardest working musicians of his generation. He remains to be up and coming force in the Latin Jazz scene. Delfeayo Marsalis said, "...you may be the one to carve out the niche (for Latin Jazz) and give it mass appeal within the next decade." His resume includes: National High School Grammy Band and the Monterey Jazz Festival High School All-Star Big Band. He’s lead his own bands, from trios to nonets. Recently, Delfeayo Marsalis invited Robert to play with he and his band at Sculler’s Jazz Club, in Boston, for two nights. In 2005, he played a gig with Jorge Santana, at the Copia, in Napa Valley. Over the last three years, the trumpeter has performed at notable jazz venues such as, The Monterey Jazz Festival, The 44th Annual GRAMMY Awards, The Jazz Bakery, The Derby, The Knitting Factory, Kutchan Jazz Festival, Spaghettinis’s Grill & Jazz Club, and Sculler’s. He has played with eminent musicians, such as Joe Lovano, Delfeayo Marsalis, Jorge Santana, Kurt Elling, Kirk Whalum, Dave Koz, Nelson Braxton, Victor Mendoza, Eguie Castrillo, and Ray Obiedo. On May 2002, he and his band provided the pre-concert reception for Telarc recording star Tierney Sutton at Toad Hall.
Robert was born September 17, 1984, and raised in a small town in Napa Valley, CA. Inspired by the diverse music he watched his family play from his grandmother's garage, such as Ranchera, Oldies, Funk, and Rock, Robert began playing the trumpet in fifth grade. Upon receiving a recording of Lee Morgan from his band teacher, his interest grew for jazz. During that time, he was invited by pianist living legend Larry Vuckovich, to play onstage at the Napa Valley Jazz Festival, with Noel Jewkes, Allen Smith, Jeff Chambers, and Omar Clay. Soon after, Robert decided to be a professional musician. .
In 2004, Robert packed his bags and moved east to study at the infamous Berklee College of Music in Boston, where he currently resides. In 2005, he recorded his demo, produced by notable producers, Clayton Richardson and Skylar Jett (who won a Grammy for their work on Celine Dion’s ..1 hit, the “Titanic” soundtrack). ........The Choice to become a musician was easy for Robert. He has set his feet amongst the best of musicians in far away places. Always shooting for the stars, he continues to advance his musical abilities. Joe Lovano said, “Robert is a fine young musician with a lot of ideas and passion.” Delfeayo Marsalis said, "...you may be the one to carve out the niche (for Latin Jazz) and give it mass appeal within the next decade." |
